Lead Maintenance Technician - Industrial Manufacturing
Location: Elmwood Park, New Jersey
Schedule & Compensation
- Typical Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- Senior employees generally work Monday through Friday
- Depending on staffing needs, some employees may be assigned schedules such as:
- Tuesday through Saturday
- Sunday through Thursday
Pay Range: $27.32 - $39.78 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
- Mechanic/Electrician: $27.32/hour
- Master Mechanic A: $33.28/hour
- Lead Maintenance Technician: Up to $39.78/hour for highly qualified candidates
Position Summary
The Lead Maintenance Technician will provide technical leadership for maintenance activities while performing hands-on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and troubleshooting work. This individual will help drive equipment reliability, minimize downtime, support continuous improvement initiatives, and promote a strong safety culture throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system failures.
- Diagnose equipment issues using root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
- Support production by responding to equipment breakdowns and minimizing downtime.
- Assist with planning and execution of maintenance shutdowns, repairs, and capital projects.
- Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to maintenance technicians.
- Maintain and improve preventive maintenance programs and maintenance procedures.
- Support reliability initiatives that improve equipment performance, throughput, and product quality.
- Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, and Production teams to achieve plant goals.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost reduction, and increased equipment reliability.
- Install, modify, and upgrade manufacturing equipment as needed.
- Assist in spare parts management and inventory control.
Accountabilities
Safety
- Ensure all work performed by internal and external resources is completed safely and in accordance with company policies.
- Promote safe work practices, housekeeping, and a zero-incident culture.
- Evaluate maintenance activities and projects to eliminate potential safety hazards.
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, and corrective action programs.
Maintenance & Operations
- Lead maintenance activities focused on safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
- Support plant KPIs related to uptime, downtime reduction, and maintenance performance.
- Assist with maintenance budgeting and cost-control initiatives.
- Coordinate maintenance projects to meet operational and financial objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts that increase equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Support environmental stewardship and sustainable operating practices.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with industrial manufacturing equipment and systems.
- Working knowledge of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and reliability principles.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Experience with pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of accountability and urgency.
- Lean Manufacturing or Lean Six Sigma experience is a plus.
Education & Experience
- Technical degree, trade certification, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience in a lead, senior technician, maintenance supervisor, or reliability-focused role preferred.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing complex production equipment.
- Proven ability to train and develop maintenance personnel.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
