International Trade Attorney - Customs, Sanctions, and Trade Litigation

Role Tier: Mid-to-Senior Associate / Counsel

Position Overview We are seeking a sophisticated and entrepreneurial International Trade Attorney to join a nationally recognized legal team. This is a unique opportunity for a driven professional to play a pivotal role in advising global clients on the complexities of international trade, investment, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Customs and Import Compliance: Advise global corporations, manufacturers, and trade associations on complex U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CVP) regulations. This includes handling tariff classifications, valuations, product markings, country-of-origin determinations, and forced labor compliance enforcement.

  • Trade Litigation: Defend client business interests in high-stakes contested matters, including challenging regulatory actions and tariff implementation before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

  • Export Controls and Economic Sanctions: Navigate complex compliance and licensing under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions programs.

  • Foreign Investment: Advise clients on regulatory requirements for U.S. investment and shepherd foreign investors through the CFIUS review process.

  • Trade Policy and Remedies: Advise on market access, preferential trade programs (USMCA, CAFTA, etc.), Section 301/232 tariffs, anti-dumping/countervailing duties (AD/CVD), and regulatory investigations.

  • Regulatory Defense: Represent clients before federal regulators regarding investigations, protests, voluntary disclosures, and settlements.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction (IL, OH, PA, DC, or FL).

  • Extensive experience in international trade law with a focus on regulatory strategy, compliance updates, and trade litigation.

  • Strong written advocacy skills with experience briefing or litigating before trade courts.

  • Cross-border fluency, international background, or multi-language capabilities are highly valued.

  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset.
