Job description

General Litigation Attorney

Litigation Associate Attorney - Sacramento or San Francisco

A well-regarded California litigation firm is hiring a Litigation Associate Attorney to take on complex, high-stakes matters from day one - with direct partner mentorship, real courtroom exposure, and a workload that supports sustainable practice. If you have 2-6 years of general litigation experience and want meaningful responsibility without sacrificing quality of life, this is the opportunity.

What you'll do:

- Own matters across the full litigation lifecycle, from pre-litigation strategy through resolution, trial preparation, and post-trial proceedings
- Draft and argue dispositive and non-dispositive motions, including demurrers, motions for summary judgment, and discovery motions
- Take and defend depositions; prepare clients and witnesses for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial
- Conduct legal research and deliver strategic analysis on complex business and commercial disputes
- Attend hearings, case management conferences, mediations, and arbitrations as lead or supporting counsel
- Collaborate with partners and clients to develop and refine case strategy throughout each matter
- Coordinate expert witnesses, prepare exhibit lists, and support trial teams during active trials

What you need:

- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active California Bar membership in good standing
- 2-6 years of complex general litigation experience at a law firm
- Demonstrated experience drafting and arguing substantive motions
- Strong legal research, writing, and case management skills with the ability to manage multiple matters independently

Nice to have:

- Trial experience (first- or second-chair)
- Experience in business, commercial, or real estate litigation
- Deposition experience in complex multi-party matters

Location & schedule:

Sacramento, CA or San Francisco, CA (candidate may be based in either office).

Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, up to 2 days remote per week. Remote days available after a 90-day in-office onboarding period. Must be located in or willing to relocate to the greater Sacramento or San Francisco Bay Area.

About & how to apply:

This firm has built a reputation for collaborative culture, manageable caseloads, and investing in associate development - attorneys here get courtroom experience that peers at larger firms rarely see until senior years.
