HVAC Service Technician
Hourly Range: up to $46 an hour
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Service Technician to diagnose, repair, install, and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across commercial and multifamily properties. The ideal candidate will provide reliable field service, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on split systems, PTAC units, heat pumps and refrigeration equipment while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to service calls and perform on-site diagnosis, repair and maintenance of HVAC/R systems including split systems, PTAC units, heat pumps and commercial refrigeration.
- Perform installations and replacements of HVAC equipment and associated components according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical system faults using diagnostic tools, meters, and wiring diagrams to accurately identify root causes.
- Recover, reclaim and charge refrigerant in compliance with EPA regulations and handle refrigerants safely.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance, change filters, clean coils, check controls and document completed work and recommendations.
- Work on commercial and multifamily properties, coordinate with facility managers, general contractors and other trades to ensure timely project completion.
- Maintain parts inventory, service vehicle, tools and ensure accurate work orders, time tracking and material reporting in the company system.
- Provide clear communication to customers about repair options, timelines and cost estimates; deliver professional customer service on every call.
- Follow company safety programs and OSHA requirements, maintain clean and organized work areas, and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Mentor junior technicians and apprentices when applicable, and participate in ongoing training to stay current with HVAC/R technology and best practices.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of HVAC/R trade school or equivalent technical training preferred.
- EPA 608 certification (Type I, II, III or Universal) required for refrigerant handling.
- NATE certification preferred; membership or training through the Arizona Heat Pump Council is a plus.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as an HVAC Service Technician or Field Service Technician in commercial, multifamily or large residential settings.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems including refrigeration, heat pumps, split systems and PTAC units, plus experience with filters, compressors, motors and controls.
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues using meters, gauges and diagnostic tools.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record and ability to operate a company service vehicle.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs, climb ladders and work in confined spaces and varied environmental conditions, including Arizona heat.
- Excellent customer service, communication and time management skills; ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Willingness to pass a background check and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
