HVAC/MEP Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled HVAC/MEP Engineer to design, coordinate and deliver mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for commercial construction projects. The role focuses on producing practical, code-compliant MEP designs, collaborating with architects and contractors, supporting construction and commissioning, and ensuring systems meet performance, safety and budget objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and supporting mechanical system designs for commercial buildings, including load calculations, equipment selection and ductwork/piping layouts.
  • Produce and review mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications using AutoCAD/Revit and BIM workflows; ensure coordination across disciplines to avoid clashes.
  • Perform engineering calculations (heating/cooling loads, ventilation rates, pressure drops) and prepare cost estimates and equipment schedules.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA, local building codes) and incorporate energy-efficiency and sustainability best practices.
  • Provide construction support including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and resolving field coordination issues.
  • Oversee commissioning and functional testing of HVAC/MEP systems to verify performance and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, general contractors and specialty contractors to maintain project schedules, budgets and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, drawings, as-built records and O&M manuals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, and contribute to continuous improvement of MEP design and delivery processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or related field; masters degree or relevant certifications a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience designing and delivering commercial HVAC/MEP systems on construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems and their integration in commercial buildings.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), load calculation software and Microsoft Office; experience with construction management software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with building codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA) and sustainable design practices.
  • Proven experience in construction-phase support, commissioning and field coordination.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills; ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in commercial construction environments and understanding of contractor workflows, scheduling and cost control.
