Flooring Estimator
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Flooring Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for flooring scopes on public works, DSA-regulated, civic and commercial projects. The roles main objective is to develop comprehensive quantity takeoffs and cost analyses, ensure compliance with public works and DSA requirements, support pre-bid activities, and collaborate with project teams to deliver timely, high-quality proposals that protect margin and minimize risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and material/labor cost estimates for flooring scopes using plans, specifications and industry-standard estimating software.
- Analyze drawings, specifications and DSA documents to identify scope, phasing, site requirements and compliance obligations for public works and DSA-regulated projects.
- Develop complete bid packages for pre-bid review, including line-item estimates, assumptions, alternates and backup documentation.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams to obtain competitive pricing, clarify scope and confirm schedule impacts.
- Perform cost analysis and value-engineering recommendations to optimize bids while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings to verify field conditions, access constraints and existing conditions affecting flooring scope.
- Maintain and update estimate databases, unit cost files and historical bid data to improve accuracy and consistency.
- Support project managers during bid submission, contract negotiation and post-award takeoff adjustments; assist in transitioning awarded work to the operations team.
- Ensure all estimates comply with prevailing wage, bonding, insurance and public works reporting requirements where applicable.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Flooring Estimator or similar role with direct experience on public works and DSA projects (required).
- Proven expertise in flooring scopes (resilient flooring, carpet, tile, wood, specialty coatings) and ability to perform precise quantity takeoffs.
- Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software and general construction management tools; strong Excel skills.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and DSA submittals.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce clear written assumptions and estimate documentation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers and project teams.
- Familiarity with pre-bid processes, cost analysis, construction management principles, and commercial/civic project delivery (preferred).
- Prior experience preparing bids for public works (prevailing wage, bonds) and DSA compliance is highly desired.
- Degree or certificate in Construction Management, Estimating, Engineering or related field is a plus.
