Fire Sprinkler Designer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to produce detailed sprinkler system designs, hydraulic calculations, and construction drawings that meet NFPA and local code requirements. The Fire Sprinkler Designer will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to develop practical, code-compliant solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Strong proficiency with HydraCAD and SprinkCAD, a solid understanding of NFPA standards, and attention to constructible design are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop sprinkler system layouts and construction drawings using HydraCAD, SprinkCAD, and AutoCAD (or Revit)
- Perform hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing to ensure code compliance and adequate system performance
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings and integrate sprinkler designs into building plans
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 25) and local codes and permitting requirements
- Coordinate design intent and details with engineers, project managers, contractors, and other trades
- Conduct site visits or review site conditions (as needed) to confirm design assumptions and resolve field issues
- Respond to RFIs, submittals, and client feedback; revise drawings and calculations as required
- Assist estimating and bidding by providing material takeoffs, scope clarifications, and constructability input
- Perform quality control checks on drawings and calculations prior to issuing for permit and construction
- Maintain project documentation, track revisions, and meet project deadlines
Qualifications
- Associate degree, certificate, or equivalent experience in Fire Protection Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of experience designing fire sprinkler systems or related fire protection work
- Proven proficiency with HydraCAD and SprinkCAD; experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit is highly desirable
- Thorough knowledge of NFPA codes and standards (NFPA 13 series, NFPA 25, local amendments) and familiarity with local permitting processes
- Experience performing hydraulic calculations and preparing calculations reports for permitting
- NICET certification in Water-Based Systems Layout (desired) or willingness to pursue certification
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for client interaction and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
- Valid drivers license and ability to perform occasional site visits
