- Conduct thorough legal research and prepare legal memoranda, pre-trial briefs, and trial strategy plans tailored to each clients case.
- Negotiate settlements and mediations with opposing counsel, striving for favorable resolutions while preserving client goals and minimizing litigation where appropriate.
- Prepare for and represent clients at hearings, trials, and other court appearances; examine and cross-examine witnesses and present persuasive arguments to judges and juries when necessary.
- Maintain clear, compassionate, and timely communication with clients, keeping them informed of case developments and advising on legal strategy and likely outcomes.
- Collaborate with paralegals, support staff, and other attorneys to manage caseload, ensure deadlines are met, and maintain accurate case files.
- Manage discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, subpoenas, and coordinating document review.
- Handle complex financial analyses in divorce matters, working with forensic accountants or financial experts when required.
- Stay current with changes in family law statutes, case law, and court procedures through continuing legal education and professional development.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience practicing family law; prior experience as lead counsel in contested hearings or trials strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in core family law areas: divorce, child custody, support, and domestic violence matters.
- Excellent legal research, writing, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a client-centered approach, including ability to manage sensitive and emotional matters professionally and empathetically.
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage a caseload, meet deadlines, and handle competing priorities.
- Proficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and standard office technology.
- Willingness to pursue continuing legal education and maintain up-to-date knowledge of family law developments.
- Nice to have: Experience handling high net worth clients, complex asset divisions, business valuations, trusts and estate-related issues, and working with financial experts in complex divorce proceedings.
