Job description

Director of Finance

Position Overview
The Director of Finance will lead financial strategy, reporting, and operational finance for a manufacturing-focused organization. This role is responsible for overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial controls, and analysis to support executive decision-making and drive profitable growth. The Director will partner with operations, supply chain, and IT to optimize cost structures, improve margin performance, and implement scalable ERP-driven financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analysis for executive leadership and the board.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting and long-range financial planning; develop scenarios and sensitivity analyses to guide strategic decisions.
  • Manage month-end close, general ledger integrity, account reconciliations and financial reporting processes; establish and enforce strong internal controls.
  • Oversee cost accounting, product costing, inventory valuation and variance analysis specific to manufacturing operations.
  • Drive cash flow management, working capital optimization, capital expenditure planning and treasury relationships.
  • Implement and optimize ERP financial modules (experience with IQMS/DELMIAworks preferred); lead process improvements and integrations between finance and operational systems.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting and financial planning team, including controller-level responsibilities where applicable; recruit, develop and retain high-performing staff.
  • Coordinate external audits, tax filings, compliance activities and relationships with auditors, tax advisors and banks.
  • Provide financial support for pricing, margin improvement initiatives, capital projects and operational performance metrics (KPIs).
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, engineering and sales to align financial goals with manufacturing performance and continuous improvement programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred or equivalent professional certification.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role (Director/Controller level) ideally within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management and production variance analysis.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and supporting ERP financial systems; specific experience with IQMS and DELMIAworks is highly desirable.
  • Strong technical skills in financial modeling, ERP reporting, Excel and BI/reporting tools.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience building and developing finance teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders and senior executives.
  • Track record of driving process improvements, strengthening internal controls and supporting audit and compliance efforts.
  • Experience with M&A support, capital project evaluation and strategic financial planning is a plus.
