Job description

As our portfolio of Life Science and Class A Office Tenant Improvement projects continues to grow across the Bay Area, we are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead our estimating and preconstruction efforts.

What You'll Do:
As Chief Estimator, we will rely on you to drive estimating excellence across our organization. You will lead preconstruction strategy, mentor a high performing team, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients, design partners, and operations leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead all estimating and preconstruction activities for Life Science and Office Tenant Improvement projects.
- Develop and execute bid strategies for negotiated, hard bid, and design-build opportunities.
- Oversee conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP estimates.
- Review project plans, specifications, and subcontractor proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Establish and maintain estimating standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Manage and mentor estimators, providing leadership, coaching, and career development.
- Partner with business development and executive leadership to pursue strategic opportunities.
- Participate in client presentations, interviews, and proposal development.
- Collaborate with project executives, project managers, and field leadership to ensure seamless project transitions from preconstruction to operations.
- Analyze market trends, labor conditions, subcontractor capacity, and material pricing to maintain competitive and accurate budgets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of estimating and preconstruction experience within commercial construction.
- Significant experience pricing and managing Life Science, laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and Class A Office Tenant Improvement projects.
- Previous leadership experience overseeing estimating teams and preconstruction departments.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, MEP coordination, laboratory infrastructure, clean room environments, and high-performance workplace construction.
- Expertise with conceptual estimating, value engineering, budgeting, and procurement strategies.
- Experience with estimating software platforms such as OST, Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, Procore, Sage Estimating, or similar tools.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage executive-level stakeholders and clients.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
