Job description
Chief Financial Officer
Location: Long Island, NY
Industry: Manufacturing / Project-Based Solutions
Company Scale: ~$50M Revenue
Type: Direct Hire | On-Site
Target Comp: Base up to $250,000 + Performance Incentive Mandate
Executive Overview
We are conducting a confidential executive search for a Chief Financial Officer on behalf of a premier, privately held custom manufacturing organization on Long Island.
Having rebounded strongly to pre-COVID growth levels ($50M revenue), leadership is seeking an operational, business-minded financial leader to serve as a strategic co-pilot to executive ownership (CEO & Founder).
This is a transformation role ideal for a Corporate Controller, Directors or VPs of Finance, or sitting CFO who thrives on building financial infrastructure, optimizing modern ERP systems, and driving shop-floor profitability.
Key 12-24 Month Priorities
- Modernize Financial Infrastructure: Rebuild the month-end close cycle, establish budgeting/forecasting cadence, and launch executive KPI dashboards.
- Master Job Costing & Margins: Deep-dive into project profitability, labor burden, and client margins to capture lost income and flag unprofitable work.
- Drive ERP Adoption: Move operations off manual spreadsheets and optimize the company's modern ERP system across all departments.
- Operational Floor Partnership: Get out from behind the desk-walk the shop floor, partner with project managers, and tie financial metrics directly to production.
- Design Incentive Structures: Build, launch, and manage the organization's first comprehensive bonus and incentive programs.
- IT Vendor Oversight: Serve as executive project manager overseeing the outsourced Managed Service Provider (MSP) relationship.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Advisory: Partner with executive ownership on capital allocation, long-term business strategy, and banking relationships.
- Accounting Leadership: Oversee core accounting operations (GL, AP, AR, Billing) and mentor an existing 6-person finance team.
- Cash Flow & Capital: Optimize cash conversion cycles, streamline billing and collections, and manage working capital.
- Governance & Controls: Establish clear financial policies, GAAP compliance, and internal controls.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
Must-Haves
- Industry Background: 8+ years in custom manufacturing, job shops, architectural fabrication, assembly, or industrial production. (Candidates from tech, fintech, or purely corporate service industries will not be considered).
- Technical Mastery: Deep hands-on experience in Job Costing, Work-In-Progress (WIP), Standard Costing, and inventory controls.
- Business Impact: Experience leading financial transformation initiatives, experience improving working capital and cash flow performance
- Systems Proficiency: Proven experience driving adoption or optimization of mid-market ERPs
Nice-to-Haves
- Active or inactive CPA or MBA.
- Experience stepping up from a Corporate Controller / VP of Finance role at a larger manufacturing firm.
