Job description
BIM/VDC Coordinator
Position Overview
We are seeking a BIM/VDC Coordinator to lead model-based coordination and virtual design and construction efforts for MEP and piping systems. The Coordinator will manage Revit-based models, run Navisworks clash detection and coordination workflows, enforce BIM standards and processes, and support prefabrication and installation planning for piping and HVAC systems. The role focuses on improving delivery quality, reducing field conflicts, and enabling efficient multidisciplinary collaboration across design, construction, and fabrication teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain and evolve Revit models for MEP, piping and HVAC disciplines, ensuring adherence to company BIM standards and project requirements.
- Perform clash detection, model aggregation, and coordination workflows using Navisworks (Manage/Simulate) and other coordination tools; document and track clashes to closure.
- Develop and implement BIM/VDC processes, standards, and execution plans; drive continuous improvement of model delivery and coordination practices.
- Host and facilitate regular interdisciplinary coordination meetings, produce coordination reports, and communicate model issues and resolutions with design, construction and fabrication teams.
- Prepare and deliver model-based deliverables for prefabrication, installation sequencing, shop drawing generation and field layout, including 4D/5D model simulations where required.
- Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads, and subcontractors to align model content, Level of Development (LOD), and BIM project milestones.
- Review and validate model geometry, data quality and technical content for constructability and code compliance; flag and resolve discrepancies with design teams.
- Support automated workflows, data exchanges and interoperability between Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud, and other project systems.
- Provide training and guidance to project teams on BIM tools, processes and best practices; act as the local point of contact for BIM/VDC coordination tasks.
- Maintain thorough documentation of coordination decisions, model revisions, and as-built model updates for handover and closeout.
Qualifications
- Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in BIM modeling and VDC coordination on commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Proven proficiency with Autodesk Revit for MEP and piping modeling and Navisworks for clash detection and model aggregation.
- Strong understanding of piping and HVAC systems, including fabrication and installation practices.
- Experience with BIM execution plans (BEP), Level of Development (LOD) criteria, and BIM standards/ISO protocols.
- Familiarity with collaboration platforms such as BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar common data environment (CDE) tools.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills; able to lead interdisciplinary meetings and drive timely resolution of issues.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project milestones.
- Autodesk certification (e.g., Revit or Navisworks) or relevant BIM/VDC certifications preferred; experience with 4D/5D scheduling and prefabrication workflows a plus.
