Audit Senior - NFP Emphasis
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Audit Senior with strong audit skills and a focus on nonprofit (NFP) clients. The Audit Senior will lead fieldwork, manage engagement teams, and deliver high-quality audit and assurance services tailored to nonprofit organizations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning, execution and completion of external audit and assurance engagements for nonprofit and other clients.
- Supervise, mentor and review work of staff and seniors; provide on-the-job training and performance feedback.
- Develop audit programs, risk assessments and testing plans appropriate to each engagement.
- Evaluate internal controls, identify issues and recommend practical improvements to clients.
- Prepare and review financial statements, disclosures and supporting documentation in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Coordinate and communicate with client management and stakeholders to resolve technical accounting and audit matters.
- Assist with preparation and review of Form 990 and related nonprofit tax filings, or coordinate with tax team as needed.
- Ensure engagements comply with firm policies, professional standards and regulatory requirements; maintain engagement documentation.
- Manage engagement timelines and budgets, delegate tasks effectively, and escalate issues when necessary.
- Support business development by building client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional services.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of progressive external audit experience (required) with demonstrated audit skills.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field; advanced degree or coursework in accounting is a plus.
- Active CPA license preferred; CPA candidates in progress will be considered (nice-to-have).
- Experience working with nonprofit entities (NFP) and familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards is strongly preferred (nice-to-have).
- Knowledge of Form 990 preparation and related nonprofit reporting requirements is a plus (nice-to-have).
- Experience performing assurance engagements and applying professional auditing standards (nice-to-have).
- Proven ability to lead engagement teams, supervise staff and manage multiple engagements to timely completion.
- Strong technical accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail and high-quality work standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to build client relationships.
- Proficiency with audit software and Microsoft Office; willingness to learn firm-specific tools.
