Assistant Superintendent - Multi-Family Construction

Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent supports the day-to-day execution of multifamily construction projects, working closely with field leadership to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This role assists in coordinating subcontractors, managing site activities, maintaining quality standards, and supporting project schedules from startup through completion.

The ideal candidate has experience in multifamily construction and is looking to grow into a lead field management role. This position works closely with project management and field teams to support successful project delivery while maintaining strong safety, quality, and production standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing project-specific safety programs and maintaining safe working conditions through regular jobsite inspections.
  • Support daily field operations and coordinate multiple subcontractors and trade partners across active construction areas.
  • Assist with project logistics planning, including site access, material staging, equipment placement, and workflow coordination.
  • Review and understand construction drawings, specifications, and scope requirements.
  • Coordinate materials, equipment, and labor resources to support project schedules and production goals.
  • Assist in monitoring material and equipment budgets and help identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Support quality control efforts and ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Document daily construction activities, site conditions, manpower, and project progress.
  • Participate in subcontractor coordination meetings and assist in managing project communication between trades.
  • Help develop and maintain short-term schedules, look-ahead schedules, and work plans.
  • Support project engineers with shop drawing and submittal review processes.
  • Assist project management teams with preconstruction planning, scheduling, and scope development activities.
  • Help maintain accurate as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify field issues proactively and work with project leadership to develop solutions and maintain project momentum.

Qualifications

  • Excellent construction experience with a focus on multifamily, podium, mixed-use, or commercial construction projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and supporting field operations on active construction sites.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, safety practices, and quality control procedures.
  • Experience collaborating with project managers, project engineers, and superintendents to successfully deliver projects.
  • Familiarity with multifamily construction practices and building systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of local permitting processes and trade coordination is a plus.
  • Experience with modular construction, wood framing, or rough framing is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software; experience with Smartsheet or ERP systems is beneficial.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
