Assistant Project Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an organized and proactive Assistant Project Manager to support delivery of construction projects across multi-family, apartment, mixed-use, and commercial portfolios. The role assists the Project Manager in coordinating field operations, managing schedules and budgets, maintaining project documentation, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate has hands-on construction experience, strong communication skills, and a desire to advance into a lead PM role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Manager in planning, coordinating and executing construction activities for multi-family, apartment, mixed-use and commercial projects.
- Monitor and update project schedules; track critical path activities and coordinate subcontractors to maintain milestones.
- Assist in budget tracking, cost reporting, review of invoices and processing of change orders.
- Perform regular site visits to verify progress, enforce quality control and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and vendors to resolve issues, clarify scope and accelerate decisions.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation including daily reports, meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, permits and closeout packages.
- Manage procurement activities: obtain quotes, track material deliveries and verify installed items against submittals.
- Support permitting and inspections process and help address punch list items leading to on-time turnover.
- Use construction management software to maintain logs, update schedules and communicate project status to stakeholders.
- Participate in regular project meetings and provide accurate status updates to the project team and leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related field, or equivalent construction experience.
- 2+ years of experience in construction field roles with exposure to assistant project management duties; experience on multi-family, apartments, mixed-use or commercial projects strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of reading plans, specifications and construction sequencing.
- Experience with construction management platforms (Procore, PlanGrid, Buildertrend, etc.) and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with owners, subcontractors and project teams.
- Familiarity with construction safety standards and possession of OSHA 10 (preferred) or OSHA 30 certification.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Self-motivated, problem-solving mindset and eagerness to grow into a full Project Manager role.
