Application Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking an Application Engineer to support customers and internal teams in developing, specifying, and deploying automation and control solutions. The ideal candidate will combine controls engineering expertise with strong customer-facing skills. This role requires effective communication, hands-on problem solving, and collaboration across sales, engineering, and field service teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with sales and customers to provide demos
- Design control system architectures and develop PLC programs, I/O lists, and control logic diagrams.
- Produce and maintain AutoCAD drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for control systems and machine integrations.
- Perform system configuration, testing, and onsite commissioning to ensure successful installation and handover.
- Provide technical support during project implementation, troubleshoot system issues, and implement corrective actions both remotely and onsite.
- Prepare technical documentation, user manuals, and training materials for customers and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in project reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize designs and delivery.
- Support post-sale activities including updates, upgrades, and field service coordination to maintain customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in controls engineering, applications engineering, or a related automation role.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and revising electrical schematics, panel layouts, and mechanical drawings.
- Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and familiarity with ladder logic, function block, or structured text.
- Strong customer-facing skills with experience gathering requirements, presenting technical solutions, and providing onsite support and training.
- Practical knowledge of control system components (PLCs, HMIs, drives, I/O modules) and fieldbus/industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and user guides.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning, troubleshooting, and training as required.
