Pipe Welder 1st Class
Location: Mobile, AL
Pay Range: $23.25–$29.00 per hour

Job Description
The Pipe Welder 1st Class welds pipe fittings and structural metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders, or oral instructions. The welder utilizes knowledge of the working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials, as well as the specifications of the equipment used in the welding process. In the sequence of work activities, the welder's work generally follows that of the fitters.

Pipe Welding Processes Utilized
Candidates may perform welding using one or more of the following processes:
  • Carbon Steel Stick Welding
  • Stainless Steel TIG Welding
  • Carbon Steel TIG Welding
  • Copper Nickel (CuNi) TIG Welding
Welding Evaluation & Testing
  • Candidates will be interviewed and evaluated by the Pipe Department to determine which welding process(es) best align with their demonstrated experience, capabilities, and anticipated work assignments. 
  • Candidates are not automatically required to test on every welding process listed above. 
  • Based on their experience and qualifications, candidates may be scheduled to test only on the specific welding process(es) they are qualified and experienced to perform.
  • Candidates who successfully qualify on selected welding processes may still be considered for employment even if they are not currently certified in every welding process utilized.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of pipe welding experience
  • Experience with one or more of the welding processes listed above
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and welding instructions
  • Knowledge of welding equipment, materials, and proper welding procedures
  • Ability to successfully complete the Pipe Department interview and required welding test(s) for the process(es) in which the candidate is being considered
  • Ability to follow established safety and quality procedures
