Telephone Installer Jobs

Telephone installer jobs maintain and setup telecommunications equipment. Working indoors and outdoors they use their skills using specialized tools and precise measuring equipment and instrumentation at a central location or an external station site. Analyzing discrepancies and making repairs to switches and other telecommunications devices are common tasks. Often working in cramped positions, reaching, crouching, and bending to make installations and repairs to radio parts, individuals must have a good physical ability since this will be done frequently with a telephone installer job.

As telecommunications equipment is becoming more complex, there has been movements to hire workers with proper certification and two to four year degrees in electronics or another related field. Employers tend to hire workers that are mechanically inclined with exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Certification is offered by The Society of Cable and Telecommunications Engineers and the Telecommunications Industry Association for individuals that pass the qualifications, although these do not guarantee employment with telephone installation jobs.

In 2006, there were around 205,000 telephone installer jobs with the majority employed in the telecommunications industry. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics there is a projected increase in employment of 2 percent over the 2006 to 2016 decade. This rate of employment will be nearly as fast as the national average for all occupations. Prospective job seekers should expect good job opportunities for equipment installers and repairers. A high amount of competition will be present for these careers as job seekers with solid resumes and previous experience will have the best opportunities for employment.
