Food and beverage jobs are the workers that greet customers and prepare them to be seated for their meal. Keeping the work flow efficient and helping out with customer service they are the first line in customer service at restaurants. They are on their feet for most of their shift and are under pressure during busy periods of time when many demands from the patrons must be met. There is no specific educational path for food and beverage employment. A high school diploma is generally accepted amongst employers for most positions. Training will be provided by the employer in which the new employee will learn information about the establishment, customer service policies, and safe food handling procedures. More experienced workers and managers will also assist new hires with training while on the job. Food and beverage manager jobs will call for additional experience with managing the work of dishwashers, waiters and waitresses, bartenders, hosts and hostesses. Additional experience will also be necessary for those seeking food and beverage director jobs.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected job growth for food and beverage jobs. Between the 2006 and 2016 decade there will be a projected 13 percent increase which is close to the national average for all occupations. Job opportunities for those that seek employment will be excellent due to the high turnover ration and the growing number of restaurants.
