Pharmacy Assistants Jobs

Pharmacy assistant jobs are responsible for providing administrative duties in pharmacies including handling money, stocking shelves, and performing other clerical duties. They also provide additional customer service to patients that may have questions. Pharmacy assistants also establish and maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, and stock and take inventory. Often working the same hours as pharmacists they may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The training for a pharmacy assistant job is typically given on the job. Employers tend to hire individuals with at least a high school diploma. Training is usually given from more experienced workers to familiarize new employees with the common procedures, routines, instruments, and the policies. Persons with previous experience, strong interpersonal communication skills, and be dedicated workers. Many workers have the option once certified and more experience to advance from either pharmacy technician assistant or pharmacy sales assistant.

In 2006, there were around 50,000 employed positions, with nearly 82 percent working in retail pharmacies with a smaller percentage employed in hospitals. The demand for pharmacy technicians will have a less than favorable impact on the amount of pharmacy assistant jobs to occur during 2006 to 2016. Most pharmacy assistants will go on to advances to either pharmacy technicians or pharmacists. Despite the less than favorable outlook for job employment, it is projected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that there will be a good amount of job opportunities still readily available. Qualified persons with previous experience and excellent customer service and sales skills will have the strongest possibility for employment with employers.
