Financial Services Representative Jobs

A financial services representative handles a wide variety of banking, accounting, securities, insurance, tax preparation, and related services. Working standard 40 hour work weeks, evening and weekend hours are possible due to the work load.

The minimum educational requirement for financial services representative jobs is at least a bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or economics. Many professionals opt to get a Master's degree in Business Administration so that they can increase the likelihood of attaining higher level positions within the industry. Most employers also provide on the job training for their entry level employees. Once they have worked for a firm for at least 4 months and Pass the General Securities Registered Representative Examination exam, investment advisors and brokers can register with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Most States require a second exam for financial services representative careers, which is the Uniform Securities Agents State Law Examination that measures an individual's knowledge of securities business.

The majority of jobs in 2006 were with commodity contracts, securities, and other financial investment employers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected 25 percent increase in employment over the 2006 to 2016 decade. This rate will be much faster than the national average for employment and can be credited to the rising amount of investments made by the baby boomer generation, the globalization of corporations, and the increasing complexity of investment products. Prospective job seekers will face competition for employment but college graduates with strong resumes and excellent interpersonal communication skills will attain the best financial services representative positions.
