The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or GED equivalent but most airlines tend to prefer hiring college graduates for flight attendant careers. Previous experience dealing with the public is also favored by airlines. Candidates must complete formal training once hired, which lasts anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected increase of 11 percent for flight attendant employment. This rate is nearly as fast as the national average for all occupations and can be attributed to the increase in population and the improving economy. There will be strong competition for these jobs since there will be more qualified workers than job openings.
